Family Music Day 2009 Evaluation

Feedback Results

Many thanks to all those who took the time to let us know what they thought of the Family Music Day this year. Your feedback is invaluable to us - with it, we can keep the things that you like, and adapt the things you don't.

Overall, feedback was very positive, with 66.7% of you giving the day a rating of 'Excellent', and the rest 'Good'. We found out that the most popular workshops were the ones that involved mass participation, and that most of you heard about the day through our communication (showing that our advertising budget is being put to good use!). Below are outlined a few of the things that were highlighted in your feedback that we want you to know we are working on:

Booking

The online booking process seemed to be efficient for most people, though there were some mistakes that we will do our best to iron out next year.

Workshops

There was a very positive response to quality of teaching and workshop content across the board. There were also positive comments about the variety of workshops that were provided.

The main criticism you had was the broad range of ages that workshops tried to cater for. As a result of this, we are looking at ways to divide workshops into younger and older age groups next year.

Other Activities

Most people thought that there was enough to do, though a few mentioned the shortage of lunch/colouring tables - we're currently thinking about how we can use the space available at West Road in different ways next year. The treasure hunt and facepainting were definitely great successes, the only problem being that there was only one facepainter! There is a possibility we'll bring 2 facepainters along next year, though we may need to charge to cover the cost.

Grand Finale Concert

This was deemed to be too long for many participants. Next year, our aim is to give it more structure and cut the length. But don't worry, if you enjoyed it, it's still our aim to keep it fun and noisy! The most important aspect is to give children the chance to play on stage with our musicians - it seems that all of you valued that opportunity greatly.

Some of you enjoyed the varied classical repertoire, whereas others would have liked to hear something more familiar. We try to bring Britten Sinfonia's influence to the Family Music Day - this means that repertoire is primarily classical, but that we are always open to new ideas. We will take all points of view into consideration when planning next year's event.

Other

We're really pleased that you thought unanimously that the stewards were helpful and friendly - their professionalism made the day run smoothly for everyone.
