After 27 years with Britten Sinfonia since its formation, David Butcher, the orchestra’s Chief Executive and Artistic Director will leave the orchestra in the summer to take up the role of Chief Executive at the Hallé Orchestra in September 2020. Jerome Booth, Britten Sinfonia’s Chairman comments:
“David has played a huge part in building what is now one of the world’s great chamber orchestras. He leaves Britten Sinfonia at a point when the orchestra is in demand worldwide and has never sounded better. This Spring, we have some incredible music – concerts, theatre, opera and dance performances – and also launch “200 More” a fundraising campaign to support future Britten Sinfonia commissions, recognising the 200 new works premiered since the orchestra’s formation, something David should be proud of and all part of a fitting finale to his time at Britten Sinfonia”.
David Butcher says: “I have had many happy years with Britten Sinfonia and am looking forward to celebrating with all those who have made it so special – our audiences, players, staff and supporters – in the way that Britten Sinfonia does best: through fantastic music over the coming months.”
