Britten Sinfonia is pleased to announce two fantastic programmes of music in Norwich’s St Andrew’s Hall, scheduled for spring 2022. The concerts include a tribute to Vaughan Williams 150 years since his birth, and a celebration of music by Russian composers.
Sunday 13 February, St Andrew’s Hall
A very special evening of pastoral music celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the birth of Ralph Vaughan Williams. His elegiac and yearning Oboe Concerto (performed by Britten Sinfonia Principal Oboe, Nicholas Daniel) is a perfect partner to the soaring melodies of The Lark Ascending, heard here alongside music by Holst, Sibelius, Bridge and Grace Williams.
Friday 22 April, St Andrew’s Hall
A distinctly Russian evening with rising stars Mishka Rushdie Momen and Matilda Lloyd. Shostakovich’s virtuosic Concerto is paired with Prokofiev’s whimsical Visions Fugitives, the original solo piano version alternating with an arrangement with orchestra. Tchaikovsky’s glorious Serenade for Strings and a new work by Russian-British composer Alissa Firsova complete the programme.
