Idées fixes (Sonata for 13)
Boat Song
Conducted by Darren Bloom, Cambridge University New Music Group joins forces with Britten Sinfonia for an exciting programme to celebrate Emeritus Professor of Music Alexander Goehr’s 90th birthday. This concert features Goehr’s piece, Idées fixes, which was written in the Spring of 1997 and premiered the same year under the baton of Oliver Knussen. Subtitled ‘Sonata for 13’, the composition is in one continuous movement and symmetrical in plan. The title Idées fixes refers to three basic motifs which pervade the texture.
