Suite on English Folk Tunes - A Time There Was
Britten Sinfonia once again joins forces with tenor Ian Bostridge in a performance of one of Benjamin Britten’s seminal works, Our Hunting Fathers, as part of Barbican Britten’s centenary celebrations. This visceral song cycle is Britten’s savage view of man’s inhumanity to man and is paired with one of his earlier creations, the dazzling and brilliant fanfare, Young Apollo. The programme is completed by Britten’s Suite on English Folk Tunes, a touching act of homage to both the country he felt so rooted to and the tradition of folksong to which he owed so much.
Produced by the Barbican.
