Britten Sinfonia Academy: Working with vocalists and soloists – 18 & 19 November
In six intensive courses across the season, the talented young musicians in Britten Sinfonia Academy (BSA) explore different aspects of repertoire, performance and musical leadership for which Britten Sinfonia is renowned.
Britten Sinfonia boasts not only a professional orchestra, but also a vocal ensemble ‘Britten Sinfonia Voices’. They collaborate regularly and often feature star soloists such as Mark Padmore and Roderick Williams. This course will be an opportunity to work with singers and a soloist on Vaughan Williams’ much-loved Fantasia on Christmas Carols. Britten Sinfonia Academy and Britten Sinfonia Voices will play a free, festive-themed pre-concert including Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols and some favourite carols ahead of Britten Sinfonia’s performance of Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms at the Barbican.
Britten Sinfonia Academy Composer Hub – 18 November
The BSA composer hub aims to support talented young composers aged 11-18 from the East of England. We aim to develop their creative, technical and stylistic skills through a programme of tailored compositional briefs, mentoring, rehearsals and public performance opportunities. This year the hub is led by professional composer Tom Coult, who will mentor the four students across the year and attend one day of each of the six orchestral courses. Tom will also write a new commission for the Academy which will be premiered during our At Lunch Four concerts in Norwich and Cambridge in July 2018.
