Nocturne
Sonata for cello and piano
Light and Matter (UK premiere tour)
Piano Trio in D minor, Op. 120
All composers are dreamers, Kaija Saariaho conjures sonic images of magnetic power through her music and French composers, Faure and Debussy, power of suggestion and gift of lyricism, colour and rhythm result in sound worlds that are both luminous and dazzling. In this programme we hear one of Debussy’s finest chamber works and Faure’s profound Piano Trio alongside Saariaho’s Nocturne for solo violin and a new piano trio commissioned by Britten Sinfonia and Wigmore Hall.
Pre-concert talk (12.15pm) – London Only
Due to unforseen circumstances Kaija Saariaho is unable to be in London next Wednesday to participate in the pre-concert talk prior to our At Lunch concert at Wigmore Hall. Whilst this is disappointing we are pleased that Huw Watkins (piano) and Gill Graham (Kaija Saariaho’s publisher) will join the panel instead. They will be interviewed by Dr Kate Kennedy.
