Bach’s St John Passion

Bach

St John Passion

Summary

Bach’s remarkable passion oratorio for Good Friday brings together elements of the Lutheran liturgy, operatic arias, theatrical choruses and meditative chorales which gave the congregation an active role in reflecting on the unfolding drama.

Britten Sinfonia is joined by a group of exciting young soloists including soprano Rachel Redmond who recently appeared as soloist with the Academy of Ancient Music at their performance of Haydn’s Creation at the Barbican. The Choir of Merton College, Oxford, appear as high priests, soldiers and the baying mob, and also as us, the congregation.
