Summary

Join Thomas Gould and Britten Sinfonia for a heady summer evening celebrating the rhythm of the dance, from spicy tango to gypsy folk music. In what would have been Astor Piazzolla’s 100th birthday year, the accordion-like bandoneon – the quintessential sound of the Argentian tango – takes centre stage with a performance of his virtuoso concerto by the legendary Argentinian master, Marcelo Nisinman. It’s a piece that blends all the sultry elegance and frenzied intensity of the Latin dance-hall. There’s a nod to Bach’s influence on Piazzolla, a dash of folk and dance music from around the world, and finally Piazzolla’s most iconic pairing: the smoky Oblivion and the raw, racy Libertango.

*the Bach concerto is a transcription of the F minor keyboard concerto
