Summary
“Eloquent trumpet soloist” (The Times, 2021) Matilda Lloyd is proud to present a lunchtime launch concert for her debut disc with orchestra ‘Casta Diva’, releasing on Chandos Records in May 2023. This unique project features new arrangements of early 19th Century Italian opera arias and variations, in an effort to expand the repertoire of the trumpet as a solo instrument and demonstrate its potential as a lyrical, melodic instrument akin to the human voice. In this programme, Matilda performs with a string quintet and harp from Britten Sinfonia, and demonstrates the full emotional range of the trumpet through the expressive bel canto style of Italian opera and the virtuosic variations. Highlights include Rossini’s Prelude, Theme and Variations, which features the flugelhorn, and two songs by Pauline Viardot paired with a set of variations on one of her most famous roles: Bellini’s Norma.
