Britten Sinfonia and ZRI quintet perform music re-imagined for orchestra and folk band.
After the toils of daytime, Schubert and Brahms would often visit Vienna’s Red Hedgehog Tavern in Viena, Zum Roten Igel to hear breathtakingly emotional and virtuosic folk music performed by gypsy bands. Enjoy an evening of “re-folked” music by composers who adored the traditional songs and instrumental music of central and eastern Europe, with arrangements of chamber works by Brahms, Schubert and Janáček for orchestra and a quintet of clarinet, cello, violin, accordion and hammer dulcimer.
