COMPOSERS SELECTED FOR MAGNUM OPUS 2025
Britten Sinfonia is delighted to announce the three composers selected for 2025. They will write new works for septet to be premiered on Tuesday 25th March, 6pm at Milton Court Concert Hall, London. They will be supported by the 2025 Magnum Opus Programme Directors, Cheryl Frances-Hoad and Huw Watkins, and will work towards writing new chamber concertos to be premiered by Britten Sinfonia this autumn.
Scottish composer George Stevenson has worked with many of the UK and Europe's finest ensembles. His orchestral works False Summit and Vanishing City have been performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. His music will be included on a 2025 album of LSO commissions.
Leoni King's work contemplates her evolving relationship with formative spaces, drawing on eclectic influences and voicing these in a classically-trained language. Her music, described as “nostalgic yet futuristic”; “gripping and sumptuous”, has been exhibited at the Turnpike Gallery, featured in Ludlow English Song Weekend, and been performed by many of the UK's leading chamber ensembles.
British-Canadian composer and conductor Michael Betteridge has an eclectic output in which his music draws on the stories of people and places, past and present, animating everything from concert halls and opera stages to slate mines and market squares! He is the Artistic Director of The Sunday Boys – Manchester’s low voiced and open access LGBTQ+ choir, and was made an Associate of the Royal Northern College of Music in 2023.
