This evening’s concert is born from a long-standing friendship between Britten Sinfonia’s leader, Thom, and Jacob. Thom has known Jacob since he was a baby, having been closely connected to the Collier family through Suzie, his violin teacher for ten years while he was growing up. Jacob was born when Thom was eleven, and both have watched each other’s careers take off in the jazz, pop and classical worlds in years since. It’s wonderful that Suzie, Thom, Jacob, and close friend Chris Thile can all take the stage together for these two unique concerts, premiering Jacob’s new piece written especially for Britten Sinfonia.

“Appearing on stage with Mum will be amazing. She will conduct the Britten Sinfonia for two concerts, my first with a full British symphony orchestra. It’s really thrilling to work with her. My world has moved and changed, but Mum remains my anchor”
