Background to tonight's concert

Tonight's concert is born from a long-standing friendship between Britten Sinfonia’s leader, Thom, and Suzie and Jacob Collier. Thom has known Jacob since he was a baby, having been closely connected to the Collier family through Suzie, his violin teacher for ten years while he was growing up. It’s wonderful that Suzie, Thom, Jacob and close friend Chris Thile can share the stage together for these two unique concerts, particularly for the premiere of Jacob’s new piece written especially for Britten Sinfonia.

Jacob and Chris
“I can’t think of a better way to kick off the year than to collaborate with some of my most treasured humans on the planet. To be performing with the Britten Sinfonia under the baton of my wonderful mother Suzie Collier, alongside one of my oldest friends, leader Thomas Gould, with my partner in crime and musical soul brother Chris Thile, is mighty special for me.”

“This programme is a one-off, full of energy and joy - I can’t wait to throw all the musical paint possible for these two unforgettable shows.”
Jacob Collier
