This four-year project with Sir Mark Elder is at the half way mark, and the concerts have been a revelation in how Brahms can be interpreted and performed by a chamber orchestra.
Sir Mark Elder’s scholarly zeal has been illuminating for us all. Speaking about the Brahms Cycle, Sir Mark said “People expect Brahms to have a weight of sound, a monumentality, which isn’t in proportion to what I read in his scores… I’m hoping to reveal the secret side of Brahms’s music; moments of incredible intimacy and delicacy, alongside the Romantic bravura.”
We are asking you to support the final two symphonies of the Brahms Symphony Cycle. The musical forces and touring costs involved in this project are significant and your donation will be hugely beneficial in enabling us to deliver the concerts to their full artistic potential.
“Played by an ensemble of this size and discipline, the effect was exhilarating.”
