We are working to establish deeper relationships with lead schools across the region with the aim of exploring the important role which schools play within their communities.

With a range of partnerships developed already, our ambition is to provide regular coaching, talks, performances and participatory workshops for communities to engage with. We are especially interested in facilitating connections between young people and local community groups and amateur ensembles to encourage routes for progression and stimulate cultural growth.

Thetford Residency

In November 2023, we embarked on an ambitious six-month residency in the market town of Thetford, in Norfolk, with the aim of giving people of different generations opportunities to experience and participate in high-quality music making.

Throughout the residency, we created new music with children and young people in schools and older people at risk of isolation, working towards a community celebration at The Carnegie and Guildhall. We also brought live music into four Thetford nurseries with early years specialist, Polly Ives.

“The social journey has been huge because the students have rehearsed together so much. It’s that cross-year group bonding – it builds a community in the whole school. We now have students saying hello to each other in the corridor, having a brief moment of connection which might brighten their day”
Laura Hodges, Curriculum Leader for Performing Arts at Thetford Academy

We are continuing to work closely with Thetford Academy and Thetford Educational Trust who generously supported an autumn project exploring the concept of reinvention. However, we have ambitious plans to establish community hubs across Peterborough, the Fens and South Norfolk, maximising on our investment through long-term partnerships.
